Illustration

Illustration is a skill used in almost every piece of original artwork creation. This might be an icon or logo design, creating an image for art direction – even masking an image requires this skill in some degree. Here are a few campaigns which are illustration led and requiring some complexity of illustration.

Help For Heroes approached Global wanting to uplift their campaign with Radio and Social Media. Help For Heroes supplied some archive newspaper articles from the Sun and The Daily Mail which they also wanted to include.

With this, I suggested that perhaps we might animate the text to tell the story.  I redrew the iconic images from the newspapers and found images of recent conflicts that illustrated the narrative in line with the new brand palette and fonts, to create an animated video to tell the story of The Veterans War. The following illustrations were added to the Help For Heroes brand asset library to shape the style of future campaigns.

The veterans war video was a big success on their social media channels racking up 180k of views in 6 months compared to around 1k of views of previous videos and more importantly, increasing awareness of the battles that veterans face post service.  The illustrations created continue to be used in Help for Heroes campaigns and I went on to deliver the Christmas TV advert for Help for Heroes in 2023. The Veterans War was relicensed for TV in April 2024.

A Digital Day is a promotional video created for Global Media, telling the story of the consumer journey through advertising impressions.

Made from stock footage, the video’s storyline is told through exclusively through infographics and features 2 fictional brands, LBD (Little Black Dress) and Fragrance Pour Homme. The brands appear throughout the video, shared in the morning on social, targeted digital audio adverts and out of home on the daily commute and highlighted in various advertising formats during the consumers day, leading to a conversion and purchase on the LBD website in the evening.

Infographics for blogs

During my work for the SEO blogging company, Apple Copywriting, I created Infographics for online blogs covering every topic imaginable. Not only were these infographics great fun to illustrate and design, but the research of the facts and statistics provided me a wealth of knowledge and made me a valuable addition to any pub quiz team.  They are not strictly data visualisation pieces, as they were made for entertainment primarily. Here are but a few.

A collection of 200+ illustrations commissioned by the Youth Charter. Originally exhibited at Liverpool Cathedral as part of the Liverpool City of Culture 2008  launch event, the Faces in the Crowd have been illustrated to reflect, present and celebrate a culture of global citizens who have transcended their own identity of colour and adversity into the social justice of rights and opportunity of hope to all. The Faces in the Crowd are part of a wider celebration of citizens of the world who, by their selfless struggle and sacrifice, have given much in providing inspirational hope and aspirational achievement through their extraordinary feats.
